Wir schreiben das Jahr 480 vor Christus. Koenig Leonidas marschiert miteiner kleinen Armee von loyalen Spartanern auf Thermopylen zu.
Dort befindet sich eine hundertausende Soldaten umfassende Uebermacht an Persern, die Griechenland erobern wollen.
Leonidas gelingt es schliesslich,
seine Armee mit der der Arkadier zu
vereinen und den Angriff der Perser vorerst abzuwehren.
Deren Koenig Xerxes bittet Leonidas zu einer Audienz und versucht, ihn zur Kapitulation zu bewegen.
Lenonidas lehnt allerdings ab und schlaegt auch die naechste Angriffswelle erfolgreich zurueck.
Als sich die Situation der Spartaner jedoch immer mehr verschlechtert, schickt Leonidas seinen Barden Dilios zurueck,
um den Griechen von der Schlacht zu berichten.
Der Koenig selbst bleibt mit seinen verbliebenendreihundert Kaempfern zurueck, um sich dem wohl endgueltig letzten
Gefecht zu stellen...
