Balto is vader geworden en al de kleine puppies hebben een goed onderdak gevonden bij lieve mensen. Echter ??n pup, Aleu, blijft achter bij de familie van Balto. Als op een dag Aleu in het bos oog in oog komt te staan met een jager, merkt ze dat ze anders is dan de andere honden. Ze ontdekt dat ze meer wolf dan hond is en raakt hierdoor erg verward. Aleu besluit daarop de wijde wereld in te trekken op zoek naar haar eigen ik. Balto krijgt na het vertrek van Aleu steeds meer dromen waarin vreemde wezens voorkomen, zoals een zwarte raaf en een witte wolf, daarom besluit Balto op zoek te gaan naar Aleu en haar te vergezellen op haar reis. Een reis door de fantastische wildernis van het witte Alaska.
