Triff Georgia "George" Lass: 18 Jahre, "Null Bock"-Einstellung, frustriert vom Leben und ihrer Familie – ein typischer Teenager eben. Nach dem sie das College mitten im Semester abgesprochen hat, bewirbt sich George auf Drängen ihrer Mutter bei der Arbeitsvermittlungsagentur "Happy Time". Hier soll sie im muffigen Keller Berge von Akten sortieren. George Begeisterung dafür halt sich verständlicherweise in Grenzen. Doch just in ihrer allerersten Mittagspause schlägt das Schicksal zu: George wird von einem herunterstürzenden Klodeckel der Raumstation MIR erschlagen und ist auf der Stelle tot. Doch das Teenager-Mädchen kommt weder in den Himmel noch in die Hölle, sondern wird in ein Team von Sensemännern und -frauen aufgenommen. Fortan muss George Seelen kurz vor dem Tod einsammeln und auf die letzte Reise schicken.
