«All’una e mezzo di notte del 26 aprile 1986 alcuni tecnici venuti da Mosca stanno facendo delle prove sperimentali sul reattore numero 4 della centrale nucleare di Chernobyl, nell’attuale Ucraina. Inspiegabilmente, non rispettano nessuna delle procedure di salvaguardia e, anzi, commettono una serie di errori. Arrivano persino a ignorare i segnali di allarme che si accendono e impazziscono perché il reattore sta per superare i limiti di tolleranza e sta per esplodere. Poi, l’apocalisse».
