You might know Vincenzo Bellini's name, but you almost for certain don't Giuseppe Geremia's. Both wrote sacred music for Catania Cathedral, Sicily, some works of those composed for this purpose being recorded here. So it's not the Opera Bellini you get to hear, but the younger composer of religious choral works - or else, you do indeed hear bits of the Opera Bellini - since all the works on this recording are not completely different from contemporary Opera composition. Nevertheless, it's not "sacred Opera" - as Mozart too often tends to in his Masses - it's a bit more earnest - but neither dark nor dull - even Geremia's Requiem. But what's all that talk compared to listening to the music itself, so get it!
