Hello everyone, 


I'm pretty sure that nobody can make games better than me. And until somebody disagrees with me, and proves me wrong, I will keep claiming to be the best. I'm not afraid to put my stuff out there and let the people decide how good I really am. So check it out. Arcade Convoy the best game out there PERIOD Feel free to disagree if you want . And Yes I've bought GTA 4. I buy new games all the time, and I still stand by this statement. Arcade Convoy is the best game out there PERIOD. I've already played and beat GTA 4. It was a pretty awesome game, but now it's over and I'm done with GTA until the next one comes out. Howerver I've been playing AC for 5 years and I'm still playing it. 





And before everyone starts flaming me for having the Gaul to say AC is better than GTA or Half-Life. Let me just say this. I'm a true gamer and I love the blockbuster games. But, These games also Take hundreds of people and millions of dollars. But the 1 thing money can't buy is a true gamer who knows how to program up some fun game-play. 





By the way you better get it while you can. Arcade Convoy is probably going to get published.(I've got several interested companies.) Arcade Convoy might not be mine for long. But for now I control it and I want to release it on this torrent. But I am going to take it off-line pretty soon. 





 





I guess you are probably wondering what is Arcade Convoy, and why is it the best game I've never played. Well, the second part is easy, I know you've never played it because I made it, and I've never released this version before. It happens to be my personal version, and it is much too big for me to host it on my site. Also my version requires a lot more video memory, and processing power. How do I know it is the best? That's easy also, I've been playing and working on Arcade Convoy off and on for over 5 years and it is at 100,000 lines and growing. I didn't make Arcade Convoy to sell it. I made it to have a fun game. As the name implies my inspiration was my days I use to spend in the Arcade Room. I try to make games so that anyone can sit down and and catch a quick 15 minute game. It's Fun and it Fast. I know it is only in 2D but a good game isn't all about graphics. I take pride in my game design, and I don't need 3D graphics to make a fun game. 





Now on to Arcade Convoy. Sorry about the length of this but I can't hardly give a proper tour of Arcade Convoy in a few sentences. First I guess you want to know what type of game Arcade Convoy is. Well it all started out about 6 years ago. I just bought Tetris Worlds, It was a brand new tetris game. Lets just say I was pretty disappointed with what I saw. In case you've never checked it out, it's the exact same game you played back in 1988. That got me thinking why has thousands of tetris clones been made, and none of them give me anything new. I'd just rather keep on playing my nes version. So I decided to show people what you can actually do with tetris. I only had 2 ideas, scarp the old-style movement, and turn them into shapes. Plus I wanted to stay true to the tetris that I love. That means 7 shapes made up of 4 blocks, you fill in a row to clear it. I don't go for pentex or things like that. I'll go over some of the features that make Shape Shifter so great a little bit later. 





I had a solid engine made up and I thought remaking tetris was fun, But I also wanted to take on the original game. Some people know it as pong, I knew it as Break-Out when I was a little kid playing my atari. This took me off in 2 different directions. First the more familiar Brick-Buster, and second is a little bit different Space-Racer. Brick-Buster happens to be my favorite game in the whole bunch. Plus as you can guess I'm also going to program up any other games I happen to feel like making. You might want to check out the checkers section. While there are other checkers games, I primarily made it for Kings, which is what the AI is made for. 





Now let me give you a little tour of Arcade Convoy. This is my version so it has everything unlocked and gives you access to change anything. You can add your own shapes, make shape shifter levels, and Brick Buster Levels, plus add to and change any of the artwork you want. It's all there in bitmap form. I'm sure most people could make better artwork than I can. In a matter of fact this includes my workspace also, so you can make a whole new game if you want. Now on to the highlights. 





 





1. First notice the high scores manager we keep a detailed HS list and you can download and merge your high scores from here. Nobody uses it except for me but if you want my latest scores and times go ahead and merge them. Or if you want to give me your times you can upload them. 





2. Start the game (if you want to use windowed mode make sure it is in 16bit color mode). The whole engine is based around shape shifter so I'll start there. 





3. First notice the mouse scope, you can scroll the wheel to enlarge it, right click it and scroll the wheel to zoom in. This is just for fun, but I also use it to zoom into pictures and particles for various reasons. You can also hit up/down left/right to move the mouse, then the space bar acts as the mouse click. 





4. If you click on the options button you can change some of the general options. One that I use a lot is on the music button. Click it to CD mode and it will get its music from your primary CD Drive. Hit F3 and F4 to change tracks. Those textures you see are actually just the Shape Shifter Shapes. We generate most of the textures and graphics from the shapes. Go ahead and click a box to see other texture combinations. Each box contains textures from a different shape. Hit F2 to go back. 





5.You might want to click on the Instructions button. Read whatever you want and check out the hot keys section. Most hot keys work on all the screens. A couple of keys that are not in this is hit Shift and F8 to reload a shape shifter level. hit 1-0 on the keyboard to reload specific parts of a level. Hit F3 in Shape Shifter to bring up the level detail. Hit CTRL-F9 for quick access to the level editor. 





6. In the instructions you can click on the Shape Shifter section. Then click on How to Play. This will give you a taste of Shape Shifter. It will take you through all the game types. Game Types are very crucial in SS, each game type gives you various options and shape combinations. The Challenges and Convoys are actually only switching between game types, so it helps to know all the game types. 





7. You can usually get back to the Start Screen by hitting F2. If that doesn't work hit ESC. Go Ahead and click on Shape Shifter. 





 





8. The Shape Shifter Main Menu starts off with the challenges and convoys active. In Challenges you have to clear 10 lines (I think) before the game will change you to another game type. In the Convoy's your game will always be changing. You'll see a game types button also. Click that to switch to the game types. Go ahead and pick something out. You can watch the Mini Level to see what the game type is like. 





9. You might have noticed the wrap around. This might not seem like a big deal but I've found it to be the key to playing with multiple shapes. I use to have an option to turn it off, but then everything became too hard. The AI loves the wrap around. 





10. Just so you know, you are not competing against the cpu when you play. You all are playing as a team. The AI will try to play around you, so try to work with it to get the optimal score. Check out the stats screen at the end of the game and you will see that the cpu plays a lot better than you do. 





11. Hit Escape to go to the options for shape shifter. This Options Screen gives you access to general movement options. But we are interested in the options button in here, so click it. 





12. Now you're in the main options screen of shape shifter. From here you can change most aspects of SS. Some options you can't mess with 


until you turn cheats on. Mainly you can not change the scrolling level until you turn on cheats. And if you turn on cheats you will get mentor as a shadow option. Click the cheats button to look at some of the cheats, turn cheats on if you want to use any. 





13. Some other interesting parts of this screen include the level detail button. Click that to change different parts of the level. If You have a level open from the Level Edit folder (and you will). Then the Level Detail page will also give you access to the scrolling offsets (this is only useful for level design). Go ahead and hit escape to finish your game. Be sure and check out your stats when you are done. 





  





14. Next I'll move on to my favorite game Brick Buster. Brick Buster is pretty simple you control the ball, and try to destroy the level as fast as possible. But you will see that there is a lot more to it, if you expect to get a top time. 





15. When you click the Brick Buster button you will get a few options. Just click Brick Buster to play a regular game. In a regular game you can reset the level whenever you want, and play any level. play this if you want to just go for High times. The other button is to play a Convoy. In a Convoy you have to play every Brick Buster level, and you are limited to restarts for the first few seconds of each level. My best time for a convoy is around 100 minutes. Don't worry you can save it anytime. Go ahead and click on Brick Buster. 





16. Hit CTRL-R to reset anytime, F7 and F8 to switch levels, F5 and F6 to change textures/shapes. Notice the split time up top. Don't worry if you loose your ball. You can always go for the best 1-Ball Down time. Usually if you loose your ball you will be out of the runnings for a top time, but on some levels the top time is actually a 1-Ball Down time. Hit ESC to go to the Brick Buster Options Screen. 





17. From here you can see the top 10 list. Click on the top of the HighScores list to switch between 1-Ball Down and Perfect Times. You 


also might be interested in clicking on a name in the top 10 list. This will show you a replay of that time. Use this to see how the number one time was gotten. 


 


18. Use the HighScores Button if you want to find and play a specific level. User Brick Buster Levels are always at the end. Hit F2 to go back to the start screen. 


  





19. I think you can make your way through the rest of the games. I would like to make a quick note about Space Racer though. Space Racer can be one of the most frustrating games. But here are a couple of tips. You can change the cc of any race. I initially intended for the speed to be fairly slow, but I wanted faster times so I bumped up the max speed. Probably the Tunnel race is the best for beginners. Also, Space Racer has an interesting feature where you can challenge any of the top times. Just click any of the times you want to challenge and you will get to race the exact same track they raced. If you beat them you get to take over the top time. When you are challenging a time the cpu ship will get the same time that the original time got, so if you are beating the CPU then you are ahead of the pace. 


  


20. Check out the rest of the games. I like Kings, Golf, Calculation, and some of the others. RotoLines is pretty descent, but I have a few ideas to juice it up. 





21 You might also notice the Conman's Toools button. From here you can gain access to the Shape Shifter Level Editor, or the Brick Buster level Editor. Just read the help for more information about making your own levels, or even just adding to the existing level. 





I would also like to mention that this install will need over 2 gigs. It installs Arcade Convoy, and My workspace. I usually pull out my 


workspace and work on it some every few months. This Time I decided to juice things up. I added more fx, increased all picture sizes, and increases the amount of processing power. If you have trouble playing, then the level might have a lot to do with performance. There are different presets and levels available that require less power and video memory if you need them.
