Torrent description

Review by Scott Yanow (AMG)

Released for the first time in 1996, this superior release (recorded at the Glasgow International Jazz Festival) features the great tenor saxophonist Stan Getz in a quartet with pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Ray Drummond and drummer Ben Riley. Together they play Getz\'s usual repertoire of the time: three standards (including a superb version of \"What Is This Thing Called Love\"), a song apiece by Dizzy Gillespie and Benny Carter, a lesser-known Thad Jones original and Barron\'s bossa nova \"Joanne Julia.\" Getz is heard throughout at the peak of his powers, and this is just one of his many rewarding Concord recordings.

Recorded June 29th 1989
