Caso strano quello degli inglesi Gentle Giant: poco conosciuti in patria e al contrario innalzati ad eroi del progressive rock anni 70 in Europa. Soprattutto in Italia. Originali, complessi ed estremamente particolari nelle tessiture melodico/armonico, in più notevoli nell’ uso degli incastri vocali (uno dei marchi di fabbrica del gruppo), i Gentle Giant giravano intorno ai fratelli Shulmann e al carismatico tastierista Kerry Minnear, quest’ ultimo uno dei pochi keyboard player dell’ epoca a fare un uso realmente peculiare del moog. I Gentle Giant furono autori di almeno 7 dischi straordinari; scegliamo 'Octopus' poiché lo riteniamo il più maturo e rappresentativo del suono della band.
