Having read other comments here before going to the theater, I prepared myself that I was about to 'waste some time' by watching this movie. And being a self-proclaimed critic, I felt being duped that I was made to believe that the movie was awful.
Honestly, it was not. All other comments here were misleading, false, and totally irrelevant. They have judged this movie in the wrong set of criteria.
Of course there are Oscars-like movies, but it was pretty much obvious that the producers of this movie did not intend to join in the Award-winning fray for acting supremacy. This movie is not about acting- you will not want to dwell there or you'll regret it. The story and cinematography will help you overlook that aspect.
Although the storyline is linear (that is, it doesn't have a lot of twisting elements), it is presented in a way that in the end, you will be contented about how the story went- sort of like a fairy tale's And-they-lived-happily-ever-after plot, which I believe was really the way what the producers wanted it to be.
The only thing that ruined this movie for me is its outstanding similarity to the movie Apocalypto. but unlike Apocalypto, I was very much satisfied with the hero's triumph. It was nonetheless uplifting and liberating.
You should watch this movie not to be an Oscars judge but a moviegoer who wants to escape from the disillusionments of life. This movie will provide you the relief that you have not found in a long while. When you watch it, do not think, just 'listen' to the story and marvel at the cinematography.
When you watch this movie, be like a child. Only then can you say that it's been quite a while since you've been truly entertained. Yes, it is just like a fairy tale. And like a child, be innocent, be fascinated, and be entertained.
