Il commissario indaga sulla morte di Enea Piccolomini, un signore cieco, morto per la somministrazione di una dose eccessiva del medicinale che prendeva. La vicenda ha risvolti imprevisti. Con la sua Livia e il cane del Piccolomini va sull'isola di Levanza ufficialmente per godersi un paio di giorni di riposo, in realtà per parlare con la sorella del Piccolomini che gestisce una locanda sul posto e la vacanza diventa presto l'opportunità per approfondire le ricerche.
