Alyssa vient de perdre sa mère vit depuis un an avec sa grand-mère. Elle est alors envoyée chez son père, alors qu'elle ignorait jusqu'à son existence. Ce dernier s'occupe d'une réserve naturelle pour les dauphins aux Bahamas. Outre la difficulté de s'habituer à son nouvel environnement, la jeune fille s'entend assez mal avec ce nouveau père. Mais elle se découvre un don pour communiquer avec les cétacés, tandis que les pouvoirs en place menacent de fermer la réserve.
