Après la mort de sa mère, Alyssa, 14 ans, se voit forcée de déménager aux Bahamas afin d’y vivre avec Hawk, un chercheur dédié à la cause des dauphins... et le père dont elle n’a jamais eu connaissance. La venue d’Alyssa sur l’île ne peut tomber à un plus mauvais moment pour Hawk, trop occupé à se battre contre des politiciens véreux cherchant à transformer son centre de recherche en une attraction touristique. Alyssa s’adaptera peu à peu à sa nouvelle vie sur l’île et découvrira le don qu’elle partage avec son père, soit celui de pouvoir communiquer avec les dauphins, don qui la liera à un dauphin sauvage. Mais lorsque le centre de recherche de son père est sur le point de fermer ses portes, Alyssa et son ami dauphin s’uniront pour empêcher sa fermeture.
