Trama:



I quattro buffi, clandestini su un transatlantico di lusso, sono scoperti, ma sfuggono alla cattura. Sbarcati clandestinamente negli USA, salvano la figlia di un gangster buono, fatta sequestrare da un gangster cattivo. 3° film dei Marx, è il 1° su una sceneggiatura originale la cui stesura durò cinque litigiosi mesi, affidata a una folta squadra di umoristi, battutisti e gag-men con la supervisione di Herman L. Mankiewicz, fratello maggiore del regista Joseph L. e futuro sceneggiatore di Citizen Kane. Diviso idealmente in 3 atti – 1 in mare e 2 a terra, e soltanto nel 3° si dà qualcosa da fare all'insipido Zeppo – è una catena di gag e di sequenze comiche che sconvolge l'ordine della logica, della società e del cinema stesso, e un riepilogo di tutta l'anarchica comicità marxiana, compresi i numeri musicali di Chico al piano e di Harpo all'arpa. Manca soltanto la pomposa Margaret Dumont, sostituita da T. Todd. Il titolo – affare di scimmia – è sinonimo di trucchi, imbrogli e anche stupidità. Distribuito in Italia soltanto negli anni '60 nel circuito d'essai, talvolta come Quattro folli in alto mare.
