Sinopsis:

Cuando el problemático adolescente Michael (Penn Badgley) vuelve a casa después de un año en una escuela militar, se encuentra a su madre, Susan (Sela Ward) enamorada del que pronto será su padrastro, David (Dylan Walsh), que se ha mudado a su casa. David dice que quiere formar la familia perfecta. Pero conforme empiezan a conocerse entre ellos, Michael rápidamente se convence de que David está lejos de ser tan perfecto como aparenta. 



Intentando averiguar algo sobre el pasado de David, Michael encuentra cosas que no le cuadran. A medida que se van sucediendo extrañas situaciones y que las actuaciones violentas de David se hacen cada vez más frecuentes, Michael les cuenta a su madre y a su novia sus sospechas, pero ellas creen que está paranoico. Finalmente, Michael busca pruebas para demostrar que sus sospechas tienen fundamento, y empieza a tirar por tierra la perfecta fachada que muestra David. Y, es evidente que éste no se parará ante nada para seguir ocultando su secreto. 



David siempre ha ansiado tener la familia perfecta. Y cada vez que se da cuenta de que esa aparente perfección es imposible, David tiene una manera terrorífica de hacer borrón y cuenta nueva. La trama culmina en una impresionante confrontación, en la que Michael protege a su familia del mal, reencarnado en David una vez más. 



Hay un montón de gente mala ahí fuera en el mundo. Pero al final, nada da más pavor que tener a un monstruo bajo tu techo.
