Le famose gesta di Robin Hood secondo Fairbanks e il suo grande istrionismo comico con una forte dose di autoironia.





Mentre Re Riccardo I (1157-99, W. Beery) è in Terra Santa per una crociata, il suo perfido fratello, principe reggente Giovanni (S. De Grasse) opprime i suoi sudditi. Molti ribelli si rifugiano nella foresta di Sherwood al comando del conte di Huntingdon che si è dato al banditaggio col nome di Robin Hood. Dopo varie imprese è fatto prigioniero, ma lo salva Re Riccardo Cuor di Leone, tornato dalla Palestina in incognito. Prodotto per la United Artists e ideato sotto pseudonimo (Elton Thomas) da D. Fairbanks (con sceneggiatura di Lotta Woods, Kenneth Davenport, Edward Knoblock). È lui che gli dà l'acqua della vita con una scattante e svariante interpretazione, sostenuta dal brio registico di un 37enne A. Dwan in gran forma. Basta vedere come gira le scene di massa: le comparse hanno parte nell'azione, non sono lì soltanto per affollare l'inquadratura
