A Filadelfia nel 1943 David Merdeg e Jim Parker prendono parte ad un esperimento top secret della Marina Navale per rendere le navi americane invisibili ai radar nemici. La missione ha inizio a bordo della Elridge e tutto sembra procedere nel migliore dei modi quando accede qualcosa di incredibile, la nave scompare sia dallo schermo radar che dalla vista degli osservatori proiettando David e Jim, gli unici sopravvissuti dell'equipaggio, in un lontano futuro.
