Un ex-detenuto si lascia convincere a fare un ultimo colpo. Quando un investigatore gli offre la libertà in cambio del suo aiuto per incastrare un gangster, egli si trova, suo malgrado, coinvolto nella lotta tra federali e delinquenti. Lo sceneggiatore del film ha dato al personaggio del poliziotto il nome di un vero investigatore che lavora a Jersey City: il detective Calvin Hart. Già in precedenza questo poliziotto aveva ispirato lo sceneggiatore nella costruzione di un personaggio, dando vita a Andre il Gigante, nel film Clockers.
