Gus è un ragazzino di circa dieci anni, ossessionato da un solo obiettivo: completare una raccolta di figurine trovando quelle con le lettere che permettono di comporre la parola M-O-T-O-R-A-M-A e vincere così 500 milioni di dollari. Siccome queste figurine si possono raccogliere solo nelle stazioni di rifornimento, la sua ricerca lo porta a girovagare per l'America facendo incontri di ogni genere.Il picaresco vagabondare del giovane protagonista ci permette di conoscere un'umanità variegata facendoci attraversare le lande suggestive e surreali del Sud-Ovest. Il tutto allietato da musica rock e momenti di frenesia comica in stile Fuori orario.
