Shaka Zulu is het waargebeurde verhaal over het 19e eeuwse donker Afrika. De film volgt het leven van de machtige Zulu- leider Shaka. Zijn leven staat in het teken van een oude profetie en hij is degene die zijn volk tot een eenheid weet te smeden. Hij klimt op van verschoppeling tot absulute heerser. Shaka wordt gedreven door z'n sterke karakter een een onverwoestbaar geloof in zijn opdracht.
