Torrent description

Email me if you are looking for an album in Lossless/FLAC (even obscure ones). I'd be willing to send you a link to it if you would share the album on publicbt/mininova after you finish downloading it. My email: centroids1@gmail.com

I’ve been hearing the word “genre-bending” being thrown around a bunch recently. In most cases, it’s applied to a band that has been together for a few years and plays around with other styles they’ve picked up. Rarely is it ever correctly used. Of course, if you’re like Electric Six and have had 13 years to experiment with your rock landscape, while shilling out 5 full-lengths, a few 7”, and compilations, you would definitely have time to alter your sound and play with the broad spectrum of genres that are available. A lot of time has past since the band first started — I mean Electric Six’s first release was on an 8-track for god sake, but after a short year since their last album, we have their latest effort, “Kill,” dropped in our laps.

The one thing I noticed while looking up information on Electric Six, is that much of their early songs focused on dancing or variations of dance. Those days have since passed, but the band still keeps all the elements in their songs (synth-pop, glam rock) to get you moving on the dance floor. “Kill” features subjects that are virtually all over the place, with songs like “Waste Of Time And Money,” “Escape From Ohio,” and “White Eyes,” there doesn’t seem to be one spoken theme through out. The hodge podge of identity doesn’t make E6’s music any less catchy though, as the effects, guitar solos, and filling keyboards, make for a new yet nostalgic (semi-dated) sound that is still enjoyable. Fans of Jamiroquai will definitely enjoy this record.

Dick Valentine’s falsetto vocals sound like familiar disco voices of the 70’s, which might be humorous to some. Especially if you listen to his high pitched voice at the end of “Rubbin’ Me The Wrong Way.” Also, autotune rears its head on more than a few tracks, but it doesn’t get in the way enough to worry — seeing that most of Electric Six’s music is synth or digital sounding in nature. It almost sounds like a modern day rock band choose to cover a Devo song, and instead made a whole new record with that sound.

New-wave at its most efficient, “Kill” possesses much that would interest fans of everything from disco, to traditional rock, and synth-pop. Now if the sound of that combination makes you a little queasy, you aren’t alone. I mean disco died out long ago for a reason. But not to worry, there is a fair balance of it spread over the infectious guitar/keyboard sections and loads of synth, till it is acceptable. I would have to say that “Kill” is one of Electric Six’s best records to date, because of its wide focus and maturation compared to their former, simple “dance dance” formula.
