Até que em 1999, o treinador Morris fez uma aposta com a sua equipe que há muito não ganhava um campeonato. Se eles ganhassem o campeonato distrital, Morris comprometia-se a voltar a jogar baseball e a tentar entrar na liga principal. Dito e feito, a equipe depressa passou de último para primeiro acabando por vencer o campeonato distrital e Jim teve de pagar a aposta, tornando-se o mais velho calouro na liga principal. Este notável filme baseado numa história verídica é uma lição de vida para quem pensa em desistir dos seus sonhos!
