Inhalt:

Ein Komet streift die Erdatmosphäre und bringt deren Magnetfeld gründlich durcheinander. Das Magnetfeld der Erde aber hält Sonnenstürme von deren Oberfläche ab, also warnt Dr. Mayfield angesichts sich zuspitzender Naturkatastrophen vor der ganz großen und finalen. Nach anfänglichem Zögern schenken im der Präsident und sein Vater der General Glauben, doch da sind einige verhängnisvolle Fehlentscheidungen schon getroffen, die nun Mayfields Frau und Sohn draußen in der provinziellen Kleinstadt zum Verhängnis werden könnten.

Typisches SciFi-Channel-Abenteuer mit allen Zutaten, die zu so einem Low-Budget-Katastrophenfilm dazu gehören (planlose Behörden, versprengte Familie, gekappte Kommunikation, beliebige CGI-Effektausbrüche, heruntertickender Countdown). Hier werden die Charaktere etwas besser ausgearbeitet als gewöhnlich, die Erklärung der Katastrophe gerät nicht völlig hanebüchen, vor allem spielt nicht alles in einem dunklen Keller, und am Ende ringen sich Russkis und Amis zu einer gemeinsamen Kraftanstrengung durch. Das ist schon mal was, in diesem Metier. Bessere Ergänzung im SF-Genre.
