Un fuorilegge messicano, Juan Miranda, padre di cinque figli che lo aiutano nelle sue imprese banditesche, associatosi con un irlandese, John Mallory, per svaligiare un banca, si ritrova invece a combattere al suo fianco coi rivoltosi di Villa e Zapata. Dopo aver preso parte alla conquista di una cittadina, Mesa Verde, e alla distruzione - in un'imboscata di buona parte delle truppe del colonnello governativo Gunther Resa - uno spietato massacratore di peones - Juan scopre che costui, riuscito a salvarsi, ha fatto uccidere, con altri ribelli rifugiatisi sui monti, i suoi cinque figli. Tentando una disperata sortita contro i "regulares", che lo hanno stretto d'assedio in una grotta, Miranda finisce loro prigioniero
