Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), es un minero enviado durante tres años a la base Selene en la Luna con la mision de extraer recursos para intentar paliar la crisis que esta sufriendo la Tierra con sus suministros energeticos. Su unica compañia sera la AI (Inteligencia Artificial), el ordenador que controla la base (voz de Kevin Spacey). El film se centra en las dos semanas antes de que abandonde la base para volver a casa, momento en el que Sam comienza a ver, oir y a sentir cosas extrañas.
