Cape Cod, rond de vorige eeuwwisseling. Drie gepensioneerde zee-kapiteinen die samenwonen besluiten dat de enige manier om hun huishouden op orde te krijgen is dat eentje van hen moet trouwen. Ze loten er om en plaatsen een advertentie in de krant. Er reageert een mooie dame en Jerry, de kapitein die geloot is, wordt meteen nerveus. De twee anderen moeten alles in het werk stellen om de dame in het kleine plaatsje te houden en kapitein Jerry genoeg zelfvertrouwen te geven.
