In seguito ad una serie di omicidi, il detective Stan Aubray, viene richiamato dal dipartimento di polizia per indagare sui delitti che sembrano del tutto simili a quelli commessi da un serial killer arrestato da Aubray anni addietro. L'assassino firma la scena del delitto usando i corpi delle vittime ispirandosi ad opere d'arte realmente esistenti. Mentre le indagini vanno avanti, vengono a galla particolari oscuri del passato di Aubray, che fanno sorgere sospetti riguardo al rapporto con l'assassino da lui catturato in passato...
