The near-death experience (NDE) of Mellen-Thomas Benedict is one of the most 'cosmic' of all the NDEs reported so far.





There are many NDEs that involve encounters with things like:





- seeing one's body from the outside (including seeing and hearing things that should be impossible to experience while dead)


- a tunnel


- encounters with loving guides and/or dead relatives


- a blissful, loving light


- the all-important 'life review' (reliving one's life over in exquisite detail and sometimes also seeing how one's actions have rippled out to affect others - sometimes by actually reliving their experiences as though in their mind and body)


- and various dimensions, particularly blissful 'heavenly' dimensions in which there is direct mind-to-mind communication, but also occasionally less pleasant ones.





What is notable about Benedict's experience is that, while it included many of these elements, it then expanded out to a more transcendent 'cosmic' level - the big picture.





It is one of the NDEs that has thrown the most light on the big picture of ourselves, the earth and the universe.





The message he brought back was also incredibly positive about the future of the planet and humankind.

I created this torrent because I think that thoughtful people everywhere will find the material interesting and thought-provoking, whether they identify as 'spiritual', 'scientific', 'religious' or subscribe to any other world-view.





Those people who through experience or belief contend that consciousness can exist apart from the body will probably find the material inspiring, uplifting and useful.





For my own part, I've been amazed at how much of what he says accords directly with discoveries I've made myself through many years of meditation, using guidance about 'how' and 'where' to look from teachings and teachers from across the traditions.

2012





Somewhat contrary to many of the prophecies around 2012, Benedict says we are heading towards a real 'golden age'.





We already have most of the technology and we gained the spiritual knowledge we need over 2000 years ago - we just have to use it.





Our 'manifest destiny' is to go beyond our current tendency to see everything through the lens of survival, into a time in which we can not only give everyone what they need materially, but in which millions of people will start to straddle the 'physical' and the 'spiritual' at the same time. We will begin to 'bring heaven to earth'.





Those of us who have had direct experiences of our deepest nature as pure immortal 'spirit' (energy) would argue that this is inevitable once we reach a critical mass of people who have had the experience.





According to Mellen, it will come a lot sooner than we expect.
