Der Industrielle Wilhelm Rahmberg wird in seiner Wohnung ermordet, höchst verdächtig finden die ermittelnden Beamten dessen Ziehsohn und Teilhaber, den bis dato unbescholtenen Thomas Skepphult. Skepphult seinerseits wird von einem Unbekannten erpresst, der höchstwahrscheinlich auch für den Mord verantwortlich ist, kann jedoch nichts beweisen. Als der anonyme Herr seine Krallen nach Skepphults Familie ausstreckt, entflieht jener dem Polizeigewahrsam und sucht auf eigene Faust nach der Wahrheit.
