Gemeinsam mit ihren Studentenkollegen reist Evelyn zur Feldforschung in die nordkanadische Wildnis. Evelyn ist stolz wie Oskar, denn schließlich besuchen sie Evelyns Vater, der in seiner Eigenschaft als Biologe soeben ein tiefgefrorenes Mammut gefunden hat. Evelyns Vater seinerseits hat mit allen Mitteln versucht, den Besuch seiner Tochter zu verhindern. Schließlich sind er und seine Kollegen im Mammutkadaver auf einen urlten fleischfressenden Parasiten gestoßen, der mit der Menschheit mal eben kurzen Prozess machen könnte.
