"The Pass" is a song by the band Rush from their 1989 album Presto. The song addresses the issue of suicide. The lyrics, like the majority of Rush's songs, are written by Drummer Neil Peart. The lyric "All of us get lost in the darkness/Dreamers learn to steer by the stars/All of us do time in the gutter/Dreamers turn to look at the cars" references a line from Oscar Wilde's play Lady Windermere's Fan.

On the Rush in Rio DVD (2003), bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee introduces the performance of the song by announcing to the audience that the song is one of the band's favorites.

On the same DVD's documentary "The Boys in Brazil," Neil Peart says he always gets emotional while playing the song, "not only for what it expresses explicitly lyrically, but because it is one of our better crafted ones."

Rush is a Canadian rock band originally formed in August 1968, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, currently comprised of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. The band and its membership went through a number of re-configurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving their definitive form when Neil Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first U.S. tour.
