Opgegroeid in Brooklyn, had Christopher Wallace geen eenvoudige jeugd. Zijn vader verliet zijn moeder toen Wallace twee jaar oud was en op twaalfjarige leeftijd ging Christopher drugs verkopen. Toen hij op zeventienjarige leeftijd definitief met school stopte, kwam hij terecht in een neergaande spiraal criminaliteit en drugs. De muziek bleek uiteindelijk zijn redding, maar later ook zijn ondergang. Als 'Unsigned Hype' wist hij uit te groeien tot een van de grote namen in de hip-hop muziek. Deze film volgt het veel bewogen leven van hip-hop zwaargewicht Christopher Wallace, beter bekend als 'The Notorious B.I.G.'.
