every publication I submitted to, and eventually I gave up on it.

For many days after, I felt guilty. I began to believe that I had in fact
brutally slaughtered a man with a claw hammer. I took my grief to pub and
attempted to drown it in a sea of fire water.
It was only months later that I found a copy of the short story lying around
that I realized I wasn't a hammer-toting serial-murderer. The human brain is
a weird playground.
