Sanctuary è una serie televisiva fantasy creata da Damian Kindler (lo stesso autore di Stargate SG-1), diretta e co-prodotta da Martin Wood regista impeganto nel genere Fantasy. In onda su Sci Fi Channel e contemporaneamente, distribuita attraverso la rete internet. La serie è inoltre girata quasi interamente su green screen, usando set virtuali ed effetti speciali.





La serie segue le vicende della dottoresse Helen Magnus, nella sua ricerca delle terrificanti creature conosciute come gli anormali, molti dei quali sono anche esseri umani. Lo scopo della dottoressa è di proteggere le persone da queste creature, ma in molti casi si troverà costretta ella stessa a difendere gli anormali dagli uomini. Nella sua missione Helen è aiutata da Will Zimmerman, la sua coraggiosa figlia Ashley, l'esperto di informatica Henry Foss e da Bigfoot il suo taciturno assistente.





La trama centrale degli episodi trasmessi via internet e di quelli televisivi è più o meno la stessa, anche se ci sono alcune sensibili discrepanze nelle azioni, nei dialoghi e nei personaggi, fra le due differenti versioni.
