Futurama è una serie tv a cartoni animati creata da Matt Groening (autore anche dei Simpson) e David X. Cohen, trasmessa in Italia su Italia 1 e Fox (sulla piattaforma satellitare SKY).
La serie è ambientata nella New York dell'anno 3000 (chiamata New New York in quanto la vecchia New York dei nostri tempi giace sotto di essa, fungendo da fogna) e racconta le avventure di Philip J. Fry, fattorino di una pizzeria che il 31 dicembre del 1999 finisce accidentalmente in una capsula per il sonno criogenico e si risveglia mille anni dopo, iniziando a lavorare come fattorino spaziale per la ditta di spedizioni di un suo discendente, il vecchissimo Professor Farnsworth: questo gli permetterà di viaggiare molto e di finire nei guai in tutti i pianeti della galassia.
L'elemento fondamentale della serie, oltre ad una ben studiata sceneggiatura, è rappresentato dalle tantissime citazioni, in particolare dalla letteratura e cinematografia fantascientifica.
Molti spunti umoristici nascono da una visione assurda ed esasperata della tecnologia (che ad esempio ha creato le cabine automatizzate per il suicidio, o l'albero bonsai di macedonia) e di come gli uomini si trovino a convivere con robot e le macchine che posseggono i loro stessi vizi e virtù.
