Watchmen è una miniserie a fumetti supereroistica di 12 albi, scritta dall'autore britannico Alan Moore e disegnata dal suo connazionale Dave Gibbons, che venne pubblicata in albi mensili dalla DC Comics (ciononostante la serie non ha niente a che vedere con l'universo DC e quindi con personaggi come Batman e Superman). A partire dal 1986. Ad oggi rimane l'unico graphic novel ad aver vinto un premio Hugo e ad essere inserito nella lista di TIME Magazine dei "100 migliori romanzi in lingua inglese dal 1923 ad oggi".
La particolarità innovativa che differenzia principalmente Watchmen dai fumetti di genere che lo hYears preceduto, è quella di presentare i supereroi protagonisti più nell'aspetto umano e "quotidiano" che in quello straordinario e avventuroso, "decostruendo" l'archetipo del supereroe convenzionale.
