En 1989, Mike O'Donnell était la star de l'équipe de basket de son lycée. Bien que repéré par un recruteur de l'université et promis à un avenir brillant, il décida de tout lâcher pour vivre avec sa petite amie, Scarlet, et le bébé qu'elle attendait.
Presque vingt ans plus tard, les jours de gloire de Mike sont bien loin.
