Dirigent Daniel Daréus toert om de wereld met zijn wereldberoemde muziekstukken en staat dag na dag op het podium. Tot hij een hartaanval krijgt en hij het doktersadvies krijgt zeer rustig aan te doen. Hij keert terug naar zijn geboortedorp en neemt een andere naam aan om zijn aanwezigheid geheim te houden. In die tijd van bezinning moet hij onder ogen zien dat zijn carrière slechts een vlucht was uit zijn ongelukkige jeugdjaren. En dat terwijl hij juist weer woont tussen dezelfde mensen van toen.





Tussen het Zweedse drama 'As It Is in Heaven' ('Så som i himmelen') en de voorgaande film van regisseur Kay Pollak zat maar liefst achttien jaar. Hoofdrolspeler Michael Nyqvist was eerder te zien in 'Together' ('Tilsammans') van Lukas Moodysson. 'As It Is in Heaven' werd door Zweden ingestuurd voor de Oscars en wist een nominatie te bemachtigen voor Beste Buitenlandse film.








A successful international conductor suddenly interrups his career and returns alone to his childhood village in Norrland, in the far north of Sweden.It doesn't take long before he is asked to come and listen to the fragment of a church choir, which practises every Thursday in the parish hall. Just come along and give a little bit of good advice. He can't say no, and from that moment, nothing in the village is the same again. The choir develops and grows. He makes both friends and enemies.
