Torrent description

Samuel Barber

Overture to The School for Scandal

Music for a Scene from Shelley

Essay No. 1 for Orchestra

Adagio for Strings

Symphony No. 2

Andrew Schenck

New Zealand Symphony Orchestra

--------------------------------------

I was surprised to find that I like these performances as much or more than many more prominent conductors/orchestras. I found myself thinking, "Why doesn't the New Zealand Symphony record more?  They sound great!"  This is worth having if only for "Music for a Scene from Shelley" -- it's the best recording I've heard, and really the only one that "gets it right" in my opinion.  But all the performances are quite worthy of your consideration.
