Nadat zowel Andrew (Ashton Kutcher) en Linda (Michelle Pfeiffer) dierbare familieleden hebben verloren, zoeken ze rust om hun verliezen te verwerken. De dood van Andrew's zus en Linda's man brengt de twee wel tot elkaar en ze lijken elkaar wonderbaarlijk goed te begrijpen, wat leidt tot een romance tussen de twee. Ondertussen lijkt Andrew ook een helpende hand te zijn voor de zoon van Linda, die het verlies van zijn vader maar niet kan verwerken.
