Drivers are a fairly mysterious part of computers. Most people aren't exactly sure what they do, but they can cause enormous problems if they get out of hand.





DriverScanner is an easy-to-use tool that scans your computer for its drivers, identifying those that are out of date, broken or incompatible. It can scan automatically on start-up, so you will always be kept up-to-date on the state of your drivers. Even if you disable automatic scanning, the DriverScanner interface is uncomplicated and intuitive, so doing it manually won't present any problems.





Once DriverScanner has finished its search, it presents you with a simple list of the problems it has found. It identifies the issue, rates its severity and offers you the option to download the solution. Great! Except for one thing - the download function is disabled in the trial version. Among other features is a back-up and restore function, in case you do any serious driver damage.





Apart from scanning and repairing, or not, as the case may be, DriverScanner doesn't offer many other options. Setting configuration is limited and you must be connected to the Internet to download the help file, which comes as a PDF. DriverScanner provides decent logs of previous scans and results, but as it doesn't offer trial users any solutions and is scarce on other features, it is unlikely to win any life-long fans.





With lots of information, but no solutions, DriverScanner falls short of the ideal program.
