Album Essay

DEATH OF LUKE. I remember the first time my Mum heard the title we had a screaming match because she thought I was going to kill myself, she wasn't the only one who thought the same.

In late 2008, when some of these tracks were just empty canvases with a vague idea, my parents got separated. The effect on me as a person was devastating, nervous breakdowns after tests at school, heated arguments with friends and crying in the most trivial of times. It was easy to say I was depressed.

However, all was saved when I met an ex-girlfriend. I had someone to support me and talk to about these problems, and she didn't seem to mind talking to me about all this even though I showed reluctance to have anything to do with her from the beginning, purely because I was "different from other boys".

However, as these things do the relationship ended and I came out twice as beaten up as before. It was during this time and I continue today I thought a lot about life. As a depressed person, you feel like society is pure evil, you actually do feel like your living in this system and everything is wrong with it and there is nothing you can do about it. I still feel like that sometimes now, but I feel its a wrong way to look at the world, I'm just sure that people who do suffer from depression however can relate to what I'm saying.

So as the title suggests, that was the death of me. The death of Luke Alexander Tkalcevic who's parents had argued for years and was always on edge but hiding it. This EP represents that transition to a new person, to Bricksta.

I felt like Bricksta was a character I put on behind turntables, this was a different person. The most confident person in the world who would stop at nothing to spread that happiness, the party vibe, I'm going to get loose and enjoy what's good.

That 's Bricksta.

So I made that person who I am now, but I learnt from the past. I treat what happened to me as the biggest positive ever because I created what your about to, are, or have finished listening to. I can't even begin to say how proud I am with this work because there was a point where i knew this wasn't like any other body of work I had done, the kind of stuff you love for a month and then because of your improvements you realize is rubbish. This is real, I achieved what I set out to do.

So if your in a point of transition or reflection, good luck. This is for you, this has song's for the ups and downs and the so so's. Whether you want to Fuck The World, Feel the 2nd part of The Heart or simply L.S.M.O, I hope you feel something from this. Thanks for listening.
