The last year of the show had several good episodes.  This wasn't one of them.





But "Brides and Grooms" featured a good guest cast, including the sole GUNSMOKE appearance of Jim Backus, who plays the reverend.  The brides are lesser-known actresses, and two of them still performing today are Michele Marsh and actress turned singer Amanda McBroom.





This digitally remastered episode is the sequel to a much better story "The Wiving" from earlier in the season with many of the same actors, and both were directed by Victor French....who doesn't appear in either of them.  





This is another of several semi-regular appearances of Hannah Cobb (played by Fran Ryan), the old woman who bought the Long Branch Saloon from Kitty Russell when Kitty moved back to her native New Orleans.  Keeping with an old GUNSMOKE tradition with important characters, there was no episode showing Kitty's departure.





Hannah was as likeable and wise as Kitty. Both of them appeared together only once 12 years later in the TV movie "GUNSMOKE: Return to Dodge".
