Paul Tibbets, il pilota del B-29 che sganciò la bomba atomica su Hiroshima, è morto a 92 anni il 1 novembre dello scorso anno. Tibbets, all'epoca colonnello dell'Air Force, aveva ribattezzato con il nome della madre, Enola Gay, il bombardiere che il 6 agosto 1945 colpì la città giapponese con il primo ordigno nucleare mai usato nella storia.
Il 6 agosto 1945 la bomba atomica rade al suolo la città giapponese di Hiroshima. E' l'inizio dell'era nucleare, nel cui spettro vivrà il mondo della guerra fredda e la cui minaccia continua ancora oggi ad aleggiare.
