Ladies of Letters - Series 1
Episode 1
After Irene's daughter gets married, she receives a thank you note from Vera, with whom she socialised at the occasion. Touched by the gesture, Irene responds to Vera's note, and so begins a correspondence in which the ladies discourse upon all manner of events in their lives.
Episode 2
Irene's beau Bill hits it off with Vera, but after a disastrous holiday experience, the ladies stop speaking to each other for two years.
Episode 3
Vera steals the spotlight at a soiree that Irene invites her to, leaving Irene feeling insecure.
Episode 4
Vera learns her unmarried daughter Karen is pregnant and the youngster confides in her mother's pen pal about her brother Howard and his friend Anthony. Meanwhile, Irene joins a protest about the siting of a nuclear fuel dump underneath her local golf course.
Episode 5
An incident at the demonstration puts Irene in hospital suffering from amnesia, and Vera's attempts to help jog her memory cause more confusion. But worse is to come!
Episode 6
Circumstances see both Irene and Vera in jail at the same time, but with Christmas coming up and lots of activities to arrange, it doesn't seem such a bad place to be.
Episode 7
Vera and Irene continue to enjoy their incarceration aboard the prison ship, and use their wealth of experience to advise and help their fellow captives, whilst subverting the system from within.
Episode 8
Irene launches an appeal to free her friend from prison, but Vera is content with her incarceration. So will the news of an impending by-pass through Vera's house change her mind?
Episode 9
era is released from prison, but is soon overwhelmed by domestic chaos back at the farm. Irene lets the villagers know about the proposed bypass, but could Vera's home be haunted?
Episode 10
Irene and Vera set aside their doubts about living together and head off on their round the world trip together in Irene's camper van.
