Starring Nicole Kidman, Jack Black, Jenifer Jason Lee, Seth Barrish and a solid supporting cast, this comedy/drama tells the tale of one family’s infinite degrees of seperation. There are some funny moments but this richly complex film is about much more than the comedy. The script is really sharp with many subtle references, and the performances are all very impressive.





Despite her better judgment and in the interest of progress and healing, Pauline (Jennifer Jason Leigh) invites her sister Margot (Nicole Kidman), who she still refers to as her closest friend after years of not speaking, to her wedding. It is clear from the moment the sister arrives that this was not such a good idea. Kidman and Leigh are both marvelous as they reveal the inner chaos of their tightly wound personalities. The exchanges are brittle but never coarse or vulgar, showing the director’s very perceptive ears and eyes for passive-aggressive argument and multi-layered misunderstandings. Each member of this family can't get over their own neuroses because they don't see themself as neurotic--only the other family members.
