Als einer seiner früheren Kameraden ermordet wird, beginnt der heruntergekommene, aber wild entschlossene maskierte Rächer Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) zu ermitteln und kommt einem geheimen Plan auf die Spur, demzufolge alle Superhelden verraten und getötet werden sollen.





Rorschach verbündet sich daraufhin noch einmal mit den ehemaligen Mitgliedern der "Liga", die gemeinsam schon in früheren Zeiten gegen das Verbrechen gekämpft haben - eine bunt gemischte Truppe ehemaliger Superhelden, von denen allerdings nur einer wahre Superkräfte besitzt. Rorschach beginnt nach und nach zu erahnen, dass eine Verschwörung hinter dem Mord steckt: Es geht um ein Geheimnis, das tief in die Vergangenheit zurückführt und das katastrophale Folgen für die Zukunft haben könnte.





Es ist nun die Mission von Rorschachs Truppe, über die Menschheit zu wachen - doch wer wacht über die Wächter?
