Es ist Liebe auf den ersten Blick für die junge Lulu aus einer verarmten deutschen Fabrikantenfamilie und Jimi, den schwarzen amerikanischen Charmeur vom Autoscooter. Ende der Fünfzigerjahre aber ist diese Liebe ein Skandal und für Lulus Mutter ein Hindernis, ihre lukrativen Heiratspläne mit Lulu in die Tat umzusetzen. So beauftragt sie skrupellose Männer, das Glück ihrer Tochter mit Gewalt zu zerstören.
