Der sensible und labile Robert Forester lebt nach der Trennung von seiner Frau in der Kleinstadt Langley. Auf seinen einsamen Spaziergängen beobachtet er in einem Haus ein Mädchen und wird immer stärker von ihrem Anblick angezogen.
