Im Jahre 1899 ist es den Menschen möglich geworden,  Magie zu ihrem Nutzen einzusetzen. Doch diese Kräfte bergen hohe Risiken: Wer sie unachtsam einsetzt, öffnet die Dimension zur Hölle und verwandelt sich selbst zu einem mörderischen Dämon.  Um den Gefahren die durch solch besessene Menschen entstehen zu begegnen, wurde eine Spezialeinheit sogenannter "taktischer Magier" ins Leben gerufen. Doch auch diese Streitmacht an Spezialisten stt an ihre Grenzen, als eine Terrorgruppe damit beginnt, die übernatürlichen Kräfte zu manipulieren und somit eine wahre Plage an Dämonen zu schaffen. Der Regierung bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als sich an den zynischen Einzelkämpfer Leiot Steinberg zu wenden. Der hochveranlagte Magier ist zwar durch seinen eigensinnigen Charakter nicht wirklich teamfähig, aber offenbar die letzte schlagkräftige Waffe, die den Menschen im Kampf gegen die Dämonen noch bleibt....
