Dags att på nytt ge sig ut på New Yorks gator tillsammans med Carrie, Samantha, Miranda och Charlotte. Sarah Jessica Parker spelar huvudrollen som Carrie Bradshaw, en "sexualantropolog" för att använda hennes egna ord, som ligger bakom tidningskolumnen "Sex and the City". Idéerna till kolumnen hämtar hon ofta från sitt och sina tre bästa vänners liv; välartade Charlotte (Kristin Davis), tuffa Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) och partytjejen Samantha (Kim Cattrall).





Filmen tar vid där den Emmybelönade tv-serien slutade. Carrie är tillsammans med Mr. Big (Chris Noth) och bor och jobbar på Manhattan. Miranda har gift sig med Steve (David Eigenberg), jobbar fortfarande som advokat och bor med sin familj i Brooklyn. Charlotte är gift med Harry (Evan Handler) och har adopterat ett barn från Kina. Samantha har bestämt sig för att pröva lyckan i Los Angeles där hennes pojkvän Jerry (Jason Lewis) har blivit stor skådespelare. I filmen Sex and the City får vi följa de fyra väninnorna genom sex, kärlek och relationer i staden som aldrig sover.
